Car down on power? A quick check of your spark plugs may reveal the cause and the easiest way to remedy this is to change them. Whilst any internal combustion engine has spark plugs, they are all inserted into the engine in the same manner as shown.
Misfiring spark plugs lead to poor fuel economy, lack of engine performance and engine damage if left unchecked. This is why with a few simple tools you can remove and replace your engine spark plugs to restore engine efficiency and performance.
The tools you will need for this job are the correct sized spark plug socket and wrench, socket set to remove coil packs and engine cover, spark plug gap tool, and torque wrench.
Step By Step for Replacing Your Spark Plugs
Remove any engine covers and undo the bolt holding down the coil pack on top of the spark plug.

Carefully remove coil pack from the spark plug tube, ensuring no dirt or debris drops down the tube.

Insert the spark plug wrench and locate on top of the spark plug then slowly unscrew in an anti-clockwise direction.
Remove the spark plug wrench with the spark plug attached and check the spark plug for signs of damage or excess carbon build up (black deposits).

Using a spark plug gap tool or a set of feeler gauges, check the spark plug gap to ensure it is the same as the manufacturer's specifications.

If the gap is incorrect carefully adjust whilst ensuring no damage is done to the tip or the electrode of the spark plug. (Most spark plugs are pre-gapped correctly, but these should always be double checked).
Once the spark plug gap has been set insert into the spark plug wrench or socket and insert back into the spark plug tube.
Tighten to the correct manufacturer specifications using a torque wrench.

Reattach the coil pack and fasten with the necessary bolt or fastener.
Repeat all steps on the remaining spark plugs in your engine.
Once complete, start engine and listen for any irregularities in running.
