Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

RAPTOR coating covers 2m² per 1L bottle, we recommend that you take measurements of the entire area you wish to coat to work out your litreage needs.

As a rule of thumb when coating cars, every 2 panels require a litre of RAPTOR Coating. We recommend 8 litres for an average 4×4 respray and 4L for a ute tub or tray.

RAPTOR Coating kits are available in black, white and tintable versions. Tintable RAPTOR may be matched to any colour with the addition of automotive basecoat tinters. You get to choose the colour you want!

We recommend using solvent-based automotive basecoat colours. RAPTOR Coating is compatible with most synthetic COB base coats or 2K acrylic urethanes. Colour can be added by up to 10% volume. RAPTOR cannot be tinted with water-based polyester or enamel paints.

There are 3 ways to get a smoother finish with RAPTOR:

  1. Turn up the air pressure on your spray gun.
  2. Use a RAPTOR Vari-Nozzle Gun, set to 2 nozzle rotations.
  3. Add thinners and reduce RAPTOR as per the instructions in the technical data sheets. For instance, add 15% urethane reducer when mixing RAPTOR. and use an HVLP gravity fed gun with a 1.6-2.0mm nozzle set up.

Please note that the durability of RAPTOR is strongly linked to its high film build. By adding reducing RAPTOR, the film build will decrease and therefore some of its durability characteristics will decrease, although only slightly.

Cleaning RAPTOR is a simple and easy process, not too different from cleaning any standard automotive clearcoat.

  1. Brush and hose down the RAPTOR-coated surfaces to remove any loose grime or dirt.
  2. Prepare Use a quality standard car wash mixed to the manufacturer’s specifications with water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that contain low pH acids.
  3. Pre-rinse Dampen area with clean water.
  4. Clean RAPTOR coated areas using the diluted car wash and water with a nylon brush/broom or textured car sponge.
  5. Rinse with clean water and dry with a chamois or microfibre car cloth.

RAPTOR is extremely tough and UV resistance. RAPTOR has been UV tested to over 5000 hours. The UV test results for RAPTOR refer to time in an accelerated weathering chamber, not to outdoor exposure. This is an industry standard test and one hour of exposure in this way equals at least a factor of eight (which makes 5000 hours equivalent to five years).

To give you an idea of how good 5000 hours is, the standard for most automotive paints is 3000 hours, showing that RAPTOR Coating outperforms this specification by a substantial amount.

RAPTOR is compatible with any solvent based 2k colour, including 2K acrylic solid colour and mixed acrylic basecoats, and can be added up to 10% by volume (ask your paint supplier to leave out the binders, if possible, for best pigment density).

NOTE: Acrylic basecoat toners tend to have high colour strength so use sparingly (less than 10% tint by volume). RAPTOR cannot be used with water based, polyester, or enamel paints.

Yes, RAPTOR can be reduced up to 20%. When reducing RAPTOR, use a urethane-based reducer.

There are a variety of solvents that are suitable for RAPTOR cleanup and flushing of application equipment – acetone, lacquer thinner, Methyl Ethyl Ketone – the same solvents that are used for cleanup and removal of automotive urethane paints. Mineral Spirits or isopropyl alcohol are not suitable solvents for cleaning RAPTOR.
