evcX Throttle Controllers

The evcX Throttle Controller is a more enhanced version of the EVC Throttle Controller. It does the same thing as the EVC, has additional features and can be controlled by a phone app. No need to see the screen or push buttons when programming this unit.
Before getting into the additional features of the evcX, we will do a quick overview of the EVC Throttle Controller.

The EVC Throttle Controller Overview
The EVC Throttle Controller is compatible with all modern drive-by-wire accelerator pedals. Each EVC unit is designed for specific vehicles, so it’s important to select the model that matches your vehicle to ensure it connects properly with the factory wiring harness.
The throttle controller is installed between the accelerator pedal and the vehicle’s computer and essentially modifies the accelerator signal sent to the computer according to your programmed settings. Installation is straightforward and plug-and-play.
Automatic or Manual
It can be fitted to vehicles with either transmission
Normal Mode-Factory Default (Factory Mode on evcX)
The throttle controller is connected but not engaged, there is no change in driving behavior—the vehicle operates as if the controller isn’t installed.
Ultimate Mode-Performance Mode (Same on evcX)
A sportier setting, the accelerator response becomes sharper. The car accelerates more aggressively with less pedal input. There are 9 different levels, with level 1 providing the mildest effect and level 9 designed for high-performance situations like drag racing. Acceleration feels more responsive and immediate.
Economy Mode-Reduced Response Mode (Eco Mode on evcX)
In contrast to the Ultimate mode, this mode slows the accelerator response relative to the pedal input. It’s ideal for four-wheel driving on rough tracks or low-speed towing. By softening pedal input, it can also improve fuel economy during normal driving. Like Ultimate mode, it includes 9 settings, where level 1 is subtle and level 9 is suited for relaxed, scenic driving. Acceleration is gentler and throttle response smoother.
Automatic Control-Set & Forget (Adapt Mode on evcX)
This mode combines the benefits of both Ultimate and Economy modes. It monitors how hard and far you press the accelerator pedal and dynamically adjusts the throttle input using the EVC Throttle Controller. Whether you need strong acceleration for passing or a smooth, controlled speed for off-road cruising, this mode enhances your overall driving experience.
The evcX Throttle Controller
Now that we have reviewed the EVC unit, lets explore the additional features found on the evcX.
Phone App
The evcX is easily programmed using a phone app for either Android or Apple products. Like the EVC, the unit can still be programmed using the display and buttons on the front facia.
Lock Mode
A great vehicle anti-theft feature. When set, it disables the accelerator pedal so the vehicle cannot be driven. If you make your evcX unit easily detachable from where it is mounted, you can take the unit away with you for added security. There is also the ability to put in a code to reactivate the accelerator pedal.
Valet Mode
Ideal for parking. Limits the throttle to only 50% of the maximum rpm available from the engine.
Anti-Slip Mode
Decreases throttle responsiveness and limits engine RPM to improve traction on slippery surfaces. "Anti-Slip Mode" offers 9 adjustable sensitivity levels, enabling you to maintain optimal control when driving on challenging terrain like snow, ice, or mud.
Ultimate9 Mode
Gives maximum acceleration without any sensitivity settings. You could say full race mode for the track or strip.
Launch Mode
Improved standing start takeoff with controlled, maximum throttle settings. The initial response is modified from that of Ultimate9 Mode to assist with reducing wheel spin & increasing traction during fast starts.
Cautions:
The same EVC cautions still apply to the evcX Throttle Controller. There are some things to consider when playing with it especially in reduced or enhanced throttle response modes. Here are some examples:
Ultimate, Ultimate9 or Launch Modes – if put on these settings this is great for fast starts and overtaking. When puttering around in a car park the quick throttle response may cause the car to lurch forward for a small amount of acceleration. Something to be mindful of.
Eco or Anti-slip Modes - if put on these settings this is great for slow smooth cruising and fuel economy. When stuck at a T intersection, in peak hour traffic and you need quick acceleration to get into a gap before the next lot of cars comes through, then you need to allow for the slower acceleration.
For any mode that has 9 settings it would pay to do gradual adjustments so you can see how it impacts your overall driving. It lets you get used to it and see what suits your driving style best. It is a lot safer than going the big bang first.
