- Coolant leak at the front of the engine - On front wheel drive cars, this will be on the side of the engine bay rather than the front. The water pump area is located around the accessory belts or serpentine belt, if you see any coolant leaks from this area then it is likely that your water pump has cracked, warped or the gasket sealing it to your engine has failed.
- Water pump pully is loose or noisy - Any loose rattles or noisy whines from the water pump pulley area indicate that the bearing has failed or impeller shaft has become damaged.
- Engine overheating - A non-functional, damaged or compromised water pump can in many ways cause engine temperatures to rise as you drive. Without the necessary circulation of coolant through the radiator, engine and other cooling system components, hot spots of coolant occur throughout the engine or radiator and can result in serious damage.
